The Morning of Your Wedding

At Brookfield Barn, we think it’s important to make the most of every moment of your wedding day. And of course, it all starts with your morning preparations!

Picture the scene: you’re surrounded by your nearest and dearest, in our purpose-designed Preparation Room that overlooks the beautiful countryside. You’ve got a bottle of bubbly chilling, a table laden with delicious grazing boards, and plenty of time to relax and get ready without the stress. Sounds perfect, right?!

In this blog post, Nadia Wyatt from Petal Blush Bridal Hair and Makeup gives her top tips for how to make the most of your pre-wedding preparations.

Embracing the peaceful, calm vibes on your wedding morning

There’s something so lovely about those early wedding-morning hours. It’s one of my favourite parts of the day and over the years, I’ve learned that how you feel right then truly sets the tone for everything to come.

As a bridal hair and makeup artist, I’ve helped brides get ready in all sorts of beautiful settings, but there’s something extra special about the peaceful vibe at Brookfield Barn. With its natural light, countryside views, and calm atmosphere, it’s the perfect place for those getting-ready moments.

This blog dives a bit deeper than typical beauty prep. I’m sharing simple, real-life tips to help you feel completely at ease and camera-ready when your wedding morning begins.

1. Set the Mood

The feeling in the room really shapes your morning, so let’s make it a good one. Think chilled playlists, soft natural light, and a space that feels clear and welcoming. Brookfield Barn’s bridal suite is lovely, just keep it clutter-free. Tuck away any bags, boxes, suitcases, or half-eaten trays of breakfast that aren’t part of the day. Not only will that help you feel more grounded, but it also looks great in photos.

2. Create a Photo-Ready Space

Before the photographer arrives, gather a few key items for detail shots and place them in one neat spot (ask a bridesmaid or member of the bridal party to handle this so you don’t need to step away):

• Your dress and veil (steamed and hanging somewhere pretty)
• Perfume
• Jewellery and hair accessories
• Wedding shoes
• Invitations or stationery

Pop everything near good natural light so the photographer can capture those intimate pre-ceremony memories easily. This saves time and ensures those details look as lovely as they feel.

Steam your dress and veil before your hair and makeup start. Your makeup artist definitely won’t thank you for a last-minute steam once your face and hair are done! Think ahead so you can skip the panic, keep your bridal team happy, and protect that flawless makeup.

3. The Hair & Makeup Schedule

(and Why You’re Not Last in the Chair)

It’s a surprise to many brides that they’re usually second to last in the chair — never last! Here’s why: once you’re ready, you still need time for:

• Getting into your dress
• Final touch-ups (lips, hairpins, veil placement)
• A few special portraits
• A quiet moment with loved ones
• Meeting the registrar (usually about 15–20 minutes before the ceremony)

I work with each bride to build a schedule that flows, allows breathing space, and avoids that last-minute scramble. I always ensure everyone is completely ready at least one hour before the ceremony so there’s plenty of time for a group Prosecco toast, candid photos, and any last tweaks. This buffer also covers any unexpected elements like a stuck zipper, a misplaced earring, or simply catching your breath so you step into the next hour feeling in control.

Once you settle into the chair, sit back, relax, and let your hair and makeup artist work their magic. We know how to keep you looking fresh and glowing all day, so trust the process and enjoy the pampering.

Always give yourself a bit more time than you think you need, mornings tend to fly by!

4. Don’t Forget the Little Things

• Eat something: Even a croissant or toast will help keep your energy up. (Brookfield Barn’s grazing boards are perfect for nibbling whilst you’re getting ready!)
• Stay hydrated: Water (or Prosecco, no judgement) keeps you feeling good.
• Play music: Put together a playlist of songs that make you feel calm and happy.
• Take five: If you need a quick break, step outside for some fresh air or a silent moment.
• Trust your team: You’ve chosen people who have your back, let them look after you.

These small details might seem obvious, but they’re easy to overlook when excitement builds. A calm, no-rush morning not only protects your nerves but also gives you space to truly enjoy those last peaceful moments before everything changes.

5. Final Thoughts

Getting ready isn’t just about hair and makeup, it’s about easing into your day feeling supported, excited, and fully present. At Brookfield Barn, the setting does half the work for you. All you need to do is let go of any pressure, be looked after, and really soak it in.

You’ll look amazing, but more importantly, you’ll feel it too.
